UE/R: SOCO PROJECT FACILITATORS URGED TO WORK HARD FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT – DCE NABDAM
By Major Apibire
The Paramount Chief of the Bawku Traditional Area, Zuugran Asigri Abugrago Azorka, has demanded apology from government for the military brutalities in Garu and Bugri.
The Zuugran also requested government to foot the medical bills of the over 220 victims who were attacked and brutalized by armed military personnel on October 28, 2023.
He further called on government to investigate the incident and take appropriate action without fear or favour.
The Paramount Chief made the demand when he addressed the press at his Palace.
He said the allegation that the operation on October 28 was to seize weapons used by alleged perpetrators who attacked a National Security vehicle in Garu was untrue.
He said even if the residents attacked occupants and the vehicle, the military personnel could have been professional, and not indiscriminately brutalize innocent residents to the extend of breaking into their bedrooms when they were asleep.
He questioned the whereabouts of the weapons if indeed the operation was to retrieve weapons.
The Paramount Chief said owing to the conflict situation in the area, one would have expected that the security personnel would have reported to the Police Station on arrival in Garu.
He called on residents in the traditional area to remain calm and allow government and other relevant stakeholders to take the necessary actions.
