UE/R: SOCO PROJECT FACILITATORS URGED TO WORK HARD FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT – DCE NABDAM
GBC URA Radio is the regional station of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in the Upper East Region situated in Bolgatanga, the regional capital. It was established by a Netherland’s programme known as Upper Region Agricultural Development Programme (URADEP) to entertain, inform and educate through radio broadcast in 1986.
This sought to make farmers to adapt to new methods of farming aimed at improving their living standards. It broadcast in six official languages namely English, Gurune, Kusaal, Kasem, Buli and Bissa, which are used to inform on government policies and programmes as well as educate and entertain.
We transmit on 89.7MHz and some of our major programmes are Morning Show in English, Community Development programmes in local languages, Our Lawyer in English, Women in Development, Matters of the Heart, Utility Belt and a host of others.
The region has rich cultural diversity and GBC URA Radio houses all those cultures by way of representation in the languages we broadcast. GBC URA Radio has until now been the only outlet of mass communication and has helped in the transformation of the region, in areas such as health, education, agriculture, culture, tourism, etc.
We take pride of been the first FM station established in Ghana and West Africa.
