Manage your newly gained freedom wisely – Principal tells matriculants.

By Peter Agengre

Principal of the Bolgatanga Midwifery Training College Amalba Christiana has admonished students of her school to make judicial use of their time and avoid unnecessary chilling with friends. She said it is the vision of the college to attain tertiary status and become a centre of academic excellence in the training of health related man power for the country. Madam Amalba made the call at the 18th matriculation ceremony of fresh students admitted for the 2023/2024 academic.

The Bolgatanga Midwifery Training College is currently running a post basic midwifery program for the NAC/NAP and also a centre for degree midwifery and nursing programs in the Upper East Region for University for Development Studies, University of Cape Coast and KNUST in addition to the direct midwifery program. The college is spreading its tentacles and exploring more avenues to create more facilities to run more programs effectively and efficiently. The Principal of the college Amalba Christiana said the college received a total of six hundred and ninety six (696) applications but admitted two hundred and seven (207) students. According to her, the matriculants are expected to exhibit transformational and innovative leadership, integrity and personal accountability, responsible and high standard professionalism, among others. She reminded the students to manage their time in school judiciously.

“For many of you, this is your first exposure of being out of home and to have independent living. You therefore need to manage your newly gained freedom wisely. Remember that you are admitted as an individual and you will graduate as an individual. You’re therefore solely responsible for all your actions in the process of achieving your goal of becoming midwifes.”

“You must also live by all the rules and regulations of the profession as stated in the hand book. You’ll have to adjust to meet the standards of the profession you’ve chosen.” The principal madam Amalba Christiana reiterated.

Madam Christiana Amalba further cited lack of accommodation as a major challenge confronting the school. She entreated investors, local entrepreneurs, alumni and interested parties to help construct hostels to solve the pressing issue of housing students. Chief of Zaare Naba Paul Agoo admonished the student midwifes to be mindful of the friends and groups they commit to. He commended management for their commitment and assured them of his traditional council’s commitment to ensure they study in a peaceful environment.
