Akonga Triumphs as Upper East NPP Elects New Regional Communications Officer

Dr. Samuel Akonga has been elected the Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after securing a commanding victory in the party’s regional executive elections held on Saturday August 15, 2026 at the Upper East Regional house of chiefs in Bolgatanga

Dr. Akonga polled 158 votes out of 332 valid votes cast, defeating his closest challengers, Ayinbisa Peter Ayamga, who garnered 107 votes, and Appasinaba Ayine Johnson, who secured 67 votes.
A total of 334 delegates were expected to vote, but 332 ballots were cast across all positions contested during the regional delegates’ conference

Dr. Akonga’s decisive victory positions him to lead the party’s communication strategy in the Upper East Region as the NPP intensifies efforts to strengthen its structures ahead of 2028 General Election

The elections also produced a new crop of regional executives :

Regional Chairperson : Elvis Figo Awonekai

First Regional Vice Chairperson : Ayamba Georgina

Regional Secretary : Daniel Ayine

Regional Assistant Secretary : Anaane Johnson

Regional Treasurer : Dr. Daniel Ziba

Regional Organizer : Bombande Edmund

Regional Women Organizer : Asaaba Fatima

Regional Nasara Coordinator : Musah Delwinde 

Regional Communication Officer : Dr. Samuel Akonga

Regional Youth organizer (unopposed) – Salahu-Deen Musah Al-Khomeini
