Incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer, Fawzia Yakubu Abagnamah, has demonstrated her commitment to supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged persons in society with a wheelchair donation to a paralysed single mother of four in the Bolgatanga Municipality
The donation to Abontoliya Talata, a resident of the Sherigu Nyokokor community, comes as Madam Abagnamah intensifies her campaign to retain her position as the NDC Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer
Madam Talata has reportedly been paralysed for more than two decades following an illness, a condition that has severely affected her mobility and ability to engage in daily activities
Her physical challenges have compounded the difficulties of raising her four children as a single mother, with her condition leaving her confined to a room for several years
The wheelchair donation followed an appeal made to Madam Abagnamah during one of her campaign visits to the community, where residents brought the plight of the struggling mother to her attention
Responding to the appeal, the incumbent Women’s Organizer provided the mobility aid to help Madam Talata regain some independence, ease her movement and improve her quality of life
The gesture has highlighted the importance of compassionate leadership and grassroots engagement, particularly at a time when Madam Abagnamah is seeking another mandate to lead the NDC women in the Upper East Region
Receiving the wheelchair, Madam Talata expressed profound gratitude to Madam Abagnamah for coming to her aid after years of enduring severe mobility challenges
She offered prayers for God’s blessings upon the incumbent Women’s Organizer and wished her success in the upcoming regional elections
Madam Talata further expressed the hope that Madam Abagnamah would be re-elected to enable her to continue extending support to vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society
The wheelchair donation has added a humanitarian dimension to Madam Abagnamah’s re-election campaign, with the intervention underscoring the significance of responding to the needs of ordinary people at the community level
Her supporters may view the gesture as a demonstration of the kind of leadership that prioritises compassion, inclusion and support for the most vulnerable as she seeks to retain the NDC Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer position
