UE/R: SOCO PROJECT FACILITATORS URGED TO WORK HARD FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT – DCE NABDAM
By – Sadat Dabo
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bongo Constituency has launched a blistering attack on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, accusing it of failing to deliver meaningful development to the district while allegedly taking credit for projects initiated under the previous NPP government
At a press conference on Wednesday November 4, 2026, the Bongo Constituency Communications Director, Agengre Daniel Asebila took particular exception to comments by the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, during the October 2026 Accounting to the People exercise, insisting that his account of the government’s development achievements in Bongo failed to acknowledge the contributions of the previous administration
The party described the current state of development in Bongo as disappointing, arguing that nearly two years into the NDC administration, residents continue to receive announcements and promises rather than tangible projects capable of transforming their lives
“Almost two years into office, this administration is yet to demonstrate any molecule of commitment in terms of development intervention capable of significantly transforming the lives and economic prospects of our people,” the party declared
The NPP further questioned why Bongo, which currently has a Regional Minister, a Member of Parliament and a District Chief Executive from the same political party, has not witnessed a more substantial record of completed development projects
NPP Accuses NDC of Taking Credit for Inherited Projects
The opposition party alleged that the NDC administration is attempting to appropriate the achievements of the previous NPP government without giving proper recognition to the individuals and institutions responsible for initiating the projects
According to the NPP, the current administration inherited several development assets, including District Road Improvement and Maintenance Programme (DRIP) machinery, which it claims remain largely idle while roads across the district deteriorate
The party also highlighted what it described as a remarkable development record during the first two years of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration, particularly between 2017 and 2018
It cited the construction of the Bongo-Balungu Bridge, Balungu-Lungu Bridge, Lungu-Vea Bridge and Dua-Borogo Bridge near the Dua Dam, as well as road interventions involving Gowrie Junction-Gowrie SHS, Nayorogo-Namoo and access roads to farming communities
The NPP argued that these projects were undertaken despite the absence of an NPP Member of Parliament from Bongo or a Regional Minister from the constituency at the time
NPP Unveils 125 Development Projects in Bongo
In a detailed presentation, the Bongo NPP Communications Directorate outlined what it described as over 125 major project entries undertaken under the previous NPP administration across nine development categories
The party said its development footprint covered roads, bridges, drainage, agriculture, education, electricity, healthcare, judicial infrastructure, markets, industrial development, water and sanitation
Among the projects highlighted were:
- Roads and bridges: Feeder-road interventions involving Bongo-Balungu-Namoo, Balungu-Lungu-Vea, Zaare-Nyariga-Ayone, Kongo-Soe and Nyariga-Doone
- Agriculture: One Village, One Dam projects in communities including Ayopia, Feo, Goo, Kabre, Kodorogo, Kuyelingo, Beo, Balungu and Samboligo
- Education: Classroom blocks, a dining hall pavilion at Zorkor Senior High School, a dormitory at Bongo Senior High School and the supply of 500 dual desks to basic schools
- Electricity: Power extension projects in Ayone, Gowrie Kassingo, Gowrie Nayire, Gowrie Tingre, Gowrie Dabotin, Konkua Doone and Ganglagirum
- Healthcare: Expansion of the Namoo Health Centre and construction of CHPS compounds at Sanabisi, Gurigo and Nayorigo
- Water and sanitation: Boreholes, small-town water systems, public toilets, biodigester-supported washrooms and rainwater harvesting facilities
The party maintained that its record was built on actual development interventions rather than political slogans and announcements
Bongo Hospital Morgue Project Abandoned
The NPP also expressed concern over the alleged abandonment of the construction of a morgue for the Bongo Hospital at Gurigo
The party described the situation as worrying, arguing that the district continues to lack a befitting morgue facility despite the previous administration’s efforts to pursue the project
It called on the current administration to demonstrate its commitment to completing the facility, which it considers an essential component of healthcare infrastructure in the district
One of the most contentious issues raised at the press conference was the electrification project in Ganlagirum in the Nayorigo Electoral Area, alongside the Bungu/Asasibokom electrification project
The NPP accused Bongo MP, Lawyer Charles Bawa Dua, of taking credit for the Ganlagirum electrification project during a recent visit to the community without acknowledging the previous efforts that led to its implementation
The party credited former Assembly Member for Nayorigo, Mr Lawrence Ake-emah-kapoe, with initiating the process through engagements with the then Chief Director of the Ministry of Energy and the former Bongo District Chief Executive
According to the NPP, the former Assembly Member prepared and submitted a formal application endorsed by traditional leaders, which paved the way for the electrification projects
The party further alleged that Mr Ake-emah-kapoe continued to facilitate the process even after leaving the Assembly by connecting relevant individuals to the contractors to ensure the projects progressed
The NPP insisted that the projects predated the tenure of the current MP and accused the NDC administration of failing to acknowledge the historical contributions of the previous government and community actors
NPP Challenges NDC to Move Beyond Announcements
The Bongo NPP Communications Directorate concluded by challenging the NDC administration to present a more convincing development record, particularly in view of the political advantage it enjoys in the district
The party stressed that it does not oppose development projects initiated by the current government, but insisted that the historical record must accurately reflect the contributions of previous administrations
It warned that it would resist what it described as attempts to rewrite the development history of Bongo for political gain
“The people of Bongo deserve better than political propaganda and selective accounts of our development history
They deserve leadership that delivers, institutions that work and projects that transform lives,” the statement declared
