Broadcast journalist with GBC URA Radio, Miss Gladys Apuweni, has been honoured as the Best 2024 Tourism, Arts and Culture Reporter at the 4th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Upper East Regional Awards held in Bolgatanga.
The award celebrates her outstanding commitment to promoting the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and customs of the Upper East Region through impactful storytelling and broadcasting. Her work has significantly contributed to projecting the region’s identity to national and international audiences, encouraging both cultural appreciation and investment in the tourism sector.
Miss Apuweni is the host of URA Showbiz Plus on URA Radio, a popular entertainment and culture program that provides a vibrant platform for local musicians, cultural performance groups, and officials from Ghana Tourism Authority to engage the public on the value of culture, tourism, music, and heritage. Through her storytelling, she has spotlighted the beauty and uniqueness of the region while inspiring both investors and tourists to explore and support local development.

Speaking after receiving the award, Miss Apuweni expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition, dedicating it to her colleagues and the broader journalistic community in the region.
This award is not just for me alone, but for every journalist in the Upper East Region who works tirelessly to tell the stories of our people,” she said. “It is a wake-up call for me and my colleagues to do even more to promote our region. I am grateful to my regional director, Mr. Osman Muntawakilu, the Regional Chairman, Mr. Albert Sore and all my colleagues at GBC for their unwavering support and encouragement.”
She further pledged to use the recognition as motivation to produce more compelling stories that celebrate the region’s cultural values, tourism potential, and natural endowments.
In addition to Miss Apuweni’s recognition, two other journalists from GBC URA Radio were honored at the awards.
