Azangeo Douglas, popularly known as Rap Naaba, a well-known rapper, poet, songwriter, and author from the Upper East Region of Ghana, is set to launch his latest work, Tears of a Woman. Hailing from the Bongo district, Rap Naaba has built a solid reputation in the region not only through his music but also through his thought-provoking writing.
Rap Naaba’s artistic journey began in 2012, but he rose to prominence in 2016. Over the years, he has released four audio albums and one video album and collaborated with notable regional artists such as King Ayisoba, Jacob Abangna Agongo, Prof. Atamina, Fasetwo, and Nambawan. In addition to his music, he has also written several impactful articles, including “The Broken BONSEC” and “Why Wouldn’t They Rob?”.
Now, Rap Naaba is turning his focus to literature. In an interview with GBC URA Radio on October 16, 2024, he shared his motivation for writing Tears of a Woman, which sheds light on the daily struggles faced by women, particularly those in his community. He was inspired by the resilience of women working long hours in markets and other menial jobs, often while enduring hardship and abuse, to provide for their families.
“When you go to the station at 4 a.m., there are women there. At 5 a.m., women are still there, and by 7 p.m., you’ll still find them working, selling, and doing minimal jobs just to take care of their children,” Rap Naaba explained. “Many of these women face abuse from their male counterparts just to earn a living.”
He also highlighted the disparity between men and women in how they spend their time, noting how men often gather in pubs and drinking spots while women continue their responsibilities at home. He emphasized the emotional and physical burdens women carry in managing both work and family life.
Rap Naaba’s novel *Tears of a Woman* will officially launch on November 1, 2024, at the Church of Pentecost in Bongo. The event promises a blend of cultural displays, live music performances, and educational discussions, celebrating both the strength of women and the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Stay tuned for this anticipated launch, as Rap Naaba continues to make his mark, not just in the music industry but also in the literary world.
