Bawku : Gumgumm officially launched.

Gumgumm, a nonpartisan and tribal organization has been launched in Bawku, Capital of the Kusaug Traditional Area in the Upper East Region.

Its objective is to bring sons and daughters of the area to canvass for development, unity, and peace. The president of the Gumgumm, Dr Joseph Ayembilla appealed to all and sundry in the Kusaug traditional area to join the Union irrespective of their tribal or political affiliation to join hands on deck to spearhead the development of Kusaug. He said the Kusaug Traditional Area was lacking behind in development. Hence, the need for the Gumgumm, as a development pressure group, champion the cause of Kusaug’s development.
He said the establishment of Gumgumm with the slogan ” Ka ti maal” literally means inclusive and sustainable development is a paradigm shift aimed at propelling and safeguarding the peace in the area, and rather fight the common enemy which is poverty and ignorance.

Dr Ayembilla added that it is high time for all to free their minds from colonial mentalities because the world has evolved and is moving faster into open societies which demand that peace is more vital than gold or any other precious mineral. He further said the name of the Union speaks volumes and therefore called for collective and active participation in the activities of Gumgumm which stands to propel a transformational development of their territorial land of birth and belonging.

The Overlord of Kusaug Traditional Area, Zug-Raan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azorka II, who is also the President of the Kusaug Traditional Council whose speech was read by Mr Patrick Adakurugu indicated that the formation of Gumgumm will play a major role in bringing the people of Bawku together for lasting peace and unity. He added that his doors are widely opened to welcome the executives of Gumgumm to his palace for any initiative geared towards development and peace in the area.

The Chairman of the occasion, Dr Alfred Mahamadu Braimah, a son of the land, stated that looking at the large number of graduates with vast knowledge and specialist in various fields in the Kusaug Traditional Area, there is an urgent need for sons and daughters in the country and the diaspora to rally strongly behind the Executives of the Union to find a lasting solution to the conflict in the area. He said development can only thrive in a peaceful environment. The National Executive Council of Gumgumm donated 100 bags of cement towards the construction of the fence wall of the palace of Zug-Raan, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azorka II.
