WaterAid Ghana has called on government and key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and increase investment in sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services to help communities cope with the growing impacts of climate change.
The call was made by Mr Richard Ntibrey, Programme Manager for WASH and Climate Change at WaterAid Ghana, during a three day training workshop for WASH journalists in the Upper East Region on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
Mr Ntibrey said WaterAid’s interventions were designed to support government in delivering its mandate, stressing that government remained responsible for providing essential services, including safe water and sanitation.
He said WaterAid expected government to take ownership of initiatives implemented with development partners and provide strong leadership in addressing WASH challenges.
Mr Ntibrey also emphasised the importance of collaboration among government, development organisations, journalists and communities in finding lasting solutions to WASH problems.
He disclosed that WaterAid was implementing a project in five districts,Bawku West, Nabdam, Bongo, Kassena Nankana West and Kassena Nankana Municipal.
He explained that the districts were selected after a climate vulnerability and risk assessment identified them as highly vulnerable to climate change.
According to him, rainfall in the areas had declined by up to 15 percent, while borehole water levels and yields had also reduced significantly.
He added that the initiative would develop sustainable approaches that could be replicated in other districts.
