In an Exclusive  interview hosted by Kimo on GBC’s URA Radio, Professor Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 running mate, outlined her vision for empowering women, enhancing education, and boosting agriculture in the Upper East Region. The interview emphasized the NDC’s commitment to economic inclusion and infrastructural growth.

She  introduced the concept of a Women’s Development Bank, a pioneering initiative aimed at addressing the financial challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in Ghana. “Most women in Ghana operate small-scale businesses and struggle to secure capital due to high interest rates and lack of collateral,” she stated. The proposed bank will offer low-interest loans and business support, specifically designed to empower women and foster their economic independence.

Shifting to education,Prof.  Opoku-Agyemang stressed the urgency of expanding access and improving school environments. She highlighted the NDC’s E-Block initiative, which seeks to accommodate the growing student population by building welcoming and resource-rich schools. “The NDC has prioritized not just expanding schools but building ones that inspire academic success,” she said, noting the importance of libraries and computer labs in fostering a positive learning atmosphere.

A strong advocate for technical education, Opoku-Agyemang also discussed the NDC’s investment in upgrading 13 technical schools to provide modern, skill-based learning environments. She emphasized the necessity of ongoing teacher training to ensure that educators remain aligned with industry needs and can deliver quality education.

Expressing gratitude for the Upper East Region’s unwavering support of the NDC, Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the party’s contributions to local infrastructure, including roads, schools, and healthcare. “The people of Upper East have continuously trusted us because they recognize our impact,” she remarked.

Looking ahead, the NDC’s 2024 manifesto places a significant focus on agriculture, a crucial sector for the region’s economy. Opoku-Agyemang announced plans to establish agricultural service centers, allowing farmers to rent essential equipment and access skilled personnel. “This system will enhance productivity and alleviate financial burdens on farmers,” she stated, reinforcing the NDC’s commitment to a more resilient agricultural sector in the Upper East.

Through her candid reflections on the challenges faced by Ghana and her aspirations for the future, her interview underscored the NDC’s vision for inclusive growth, aiming to uplift women, youth, and rural communities across the nation.
