UE/R: SOCO PROJECT FACILITATORS URGED TO WORK HARD FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT – DCE NABDAM
By – Sadat Dabo
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upper East Region has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to remove Stephen Yakubu as the upper East regional Minister.
This demand comes on the heels of the minister’s controversial comments regarding the 24-hour economy proposed by NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
Delivering a speech on behalf of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the 2023 Sekote Tenglebgre Festival by the Chiefs and People of Sekoti in the Nabdam District, Minister Yakubu dismissed the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy, suggesting that its implementation could pose a threat to marriages in the region.
He argued that the predominantly farming male population would be occupied around the clock, leaving limited time for spousal intimacy
But at a press conference by the opposition NDC in the upper East region “UPPER EAST MUST KNOW SERIES” the Regional communication officer, Jonathan Abdulla Salifu says the utterances of the minister is unbecoming of his office.
According to the Regional communication officer of the party, the President must dismiss the minister.
“We in the NDC take serious exception to the unrepentant attitude of the NPP and its leaders at launching needless scathing attacks on the well-meaning Ghanaian women at the least opportunity they find. We, therefore, unequivocally condemn the backward and stereotypical attack and
attempt by the dishonorable Stephen Yakubu and the NPP to portray and present the women of this region as mere sex objects. We thus, demand an immediate retraction and apology from Mr.Yakubu within 48 hours. Again, we demand his swift action to ensure victims of military brutality in Garu are properly treated and compensated as the head of the Regional Security Council (RESEC), whose negligence caused the unfortunate incident”.
“If the minister fails to comply with this, will prompt civil actions including massive demonstrations against him to emphasize our demand for respect and equality for all”.
