UE/R – Minister Akamugri cut sod for 24-Hour Market in Kasena Nankana Municipal.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has cut sod for the construction of 24-hour Market project in Navrongo, aiming at ,creating jobs and improving the local economy when completed.

He lauded the landlords and the people of Navrongo for the release of the land for the project , which is one of the 24-hour economy policy of the government to solve the unemployment situation in the country, which is the biggest problem, and His Excellency,

President John Dramani Mahama ,who is a visionary and innovative leader, will improve the situation with his transformative interventions. On the issue of funding, the Hon. Minister disclosed that 25% of every tranch of the District Assembly Common Fund has been ring-fenced, for the project and therefore the money is available, and appeal to the Chiefs and people of Navrongo to support the consultant and the contractor, especially with affordable gravel,sand and good behavior and urged the contractor too, to adhere to the local content contractual agreement.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Kasena Nankana Municipal, Hon. Faustina A.Abulu on behalf of the people, discrebed the 24-hour Market as a great opportunity to the traders especially the women and expressed her profound gratitude to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for the great initiative, that when completed will create jobs for the teeming youth, improve infrastructure, security and increased revenue and improved services throughout the night amongst other things .

The MCE made an appeal to the consultant and the contractor to do a quality job to ensure that, the purpose of the project is realised and asked the community people to support them to ensure smooth work of the project. The Overlord of the Navrongo Traditional Area, Pe Dennis Aniakwah Asagpaare 11, on behalf of his colleagues said the market when completed will open to the general public not only the Navrongo people, and appeal to the government to make timely releases of funds to the contractor to enable him complete it within scheduled time.

The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Hon. Simon Akibange Aworigo, said during the 2024 general election , they promised the people of Ghana that when they come to power they will build 24-hour Markets for them and they are delivering on that, adding that President John Dramani Mahama and National Democratic Congress government is very different, and they are committed to supporting macro, medium and small enterprises to grow the local economy and to create jobs.

According to him, the market will be a relief for the traders who ply their trades there especially during the raining season and urged all the people to support the consultant and the contractor to execute the project well and expressed his sincerest gratitude to the President and pledged he’s fullest support and that of the MCE and other appointees .

The lead consultant, the Avangarde Design Services who presented the Designs of the project to the contractor to start work, stated that, the market when completed will be a one stop shop for everything which includes Police and Fire service posts, clinic, pharmacy, Daycare centre, Women’s Bank etc and urged the contractor to follow all the specifications and the local content contractual agreement.
