The 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has officially commenced across the Upper East Region today, Monday, May 4, 2026, with a total of 22,326 candidates participating in the examination.

According to the Ghana Education Service, out of the total number of candidates, 19,301 are from public schools, while 2,945 candidates are from private schools across the region.

The examination, which started today, is scheduled to run for five days and will end on Friday, May 8, 2026. Reports from various examination centres indicate that the process commenced smoothly, with candidates arriving early and demonstrating readiness for the papers.

The Ghana Education Service has deployed supervisors and invigilators to ensure a peaceful and well coordinated examination process throughout the period.

Candidates have been advised to maintain good conduct and strictly adhere to examination rules and regulations. Authorities have also cautioned against any form of examination malpractice, emphasizing that such acts are punishable under the law and could lead to severe consequences, including cancellation of results.

Parents and guardians have also been urged to provide the necessary support to their wards to help them stay focused and confident throughout the examination period.

The BECE remains a significant academic milestone for students, as it determines their progression into senior high schools.

Education officials have expressed optimism for a successful and incident free examination across the region.
