The Upper East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission of Ghana Mr. William Obeng Adakwa has said that the limited voter registration exercise be viewed by potential voters as an opportunity to get their names on the voters register which remained one of the key requirements in guaranteeing one to choose leaders during elections in the country calling on all stakeholders more especially the various political parties, the police, the media and the electorates to collaborate effectively with the commission to ensure the exercise which started on the 7th May 2024 ends successfully on the 27th May 2024.

Mr. Adakwa lamented the earlier challenges on day one and said registration improved on day two of the exercise. Given a breakdown as to the number of registrants so far, Mr. Adakwa said day one saw the registration of about 400 people which shot up to about 800 on the second day and it increased a little above 2000 on day three.
Mr. Adakwa disclosed that district Registration Review Committees (DRRC) whose mandate would be to handle complaints regarding reported cases of registering unqualified persons. In connection with this subject matter a complainant would be made to complete a form from the commission which would be attended to by this committees as promptly as possible.
On the mandate of the commission, he reiterated that the commission was constitutionally mandated to administer elections in the country. He re-echoed the commission’s commitment in the discharge of its duties professionally and as neutral and civil as possible.
Mr. Adakwa cautioned political parties against recruiting party agents without the requisite knowledge of the electoral processes to protect their interest in any election. Such acts according to the EC Boss has the tendency to mare the beauty of the growth of our democracy.
The elections expert further described Ghana’s Electoral Commission as the best under the sun as compared to other democracies in the world adding most international observers said they were impressed with the operations of the commission because the political parties were directly involved in its activities.
