UE/R : BIYA CALLED FOR PEACE BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER ELECTION 2024 – BIYA CHAIRMAN

The Chairman of the Bolgatanga Chapter of the Bimoba Youth Association, BIYA, Mr. Duut Yennukua Joseph called on religious organisations, civil society organisations more especially the politicians to conduct their affairs in a manner that would foster the existing peace currently being enjoyed by Ghanaians as the developing nation prepares for another general elections come December 7, 2024. He warned that no one should take the current peace for granted because misinformations, fault accusations and counter accusations in an election year has the tendency of compromising the peace and unity of the Ghanaian people.

He made the call during the 2024 annual get-together of members of BIYA held in Bolgatanga, capital of the Upper East Region over the weekends.

He stated that vocational education was identified by experts as an area with the potential of reducing youth unemployment in the country if well harnessed. He encouraged  the youth of Ghana to venture into such potential areas to secure an enviable future for themselves and their families.

He said BIYA over the years had granted some members soft loans from their monthly dues in a bit to support and enhance their business activities but that it was not without challenges. He mentioned poor meeting attendance, lack of commitment and default in honouring dues obligations among others. These according to him has been bedevilling the smooth operations of the association. He urged all the responsible members of the association to help rescue their lost sheep and bring them on board to contribute their quota towards community development.

He indicated that BIYA annual get-together was a platform for members to fraternise  with one another as well as their playmates such as the Konkonbas, Gonjas, Sissalas and Bissas in a way to cement their ties for peaceful co-existence.

On his part the former Member of Parliament for the Bunkpurugu Constituency and former minister for the North East Region, Hon. Solomon Namliid Boar stated that though not an MP his impact was being felt by his constituents in many respects. He mentioned the Bunkpurugu Agenda III Hospital project which would be commissioned before September 2024, the over 300 youth of the area who got different jobs through him and also in the area of water and extention of electricity to most parts of the constituency among others.

Hon. Boar who doubles as  the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Bunkpurugu Constituency also encouraged his constituents to make friends outside of their domain saying initiation and nursing of such relationships bring a lot of good things to those who adhere to it. He adviced the youth not to take the law into their own hands but to channel their grievances for redress at the right quarters.

The NDC Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu Constituency, Hon. Dr. Abednego Bandim was concerned how his efforts towards development his constituency was being frustrated by elements of the government of New Patriotic Party in the area. He mentioned the construction of the 6 bridges between Nakpanduri and Kambatiak which was awarded on contract and the contractor left since 2019. He said in the past MPs were given opportunities to get their people into jobs but they have not seen this in the current administration of NPP.

He further said that despite the aforementioned challenges he used 70 percent of his common fund to undertake a number of development  projects in the area such as the construction of the 6 bridges, provision of 180 pieces of furniture for schools, facilitate the engagement of 120 teachers and provision of 6 moto bikes to CHPS Compounds in the constituency for enhance health delivery.

In his closing remarks Chairman Duut who is also a businessman made a passionate appeal to the elites of the Bimoba community of Ghana to pool resources together and promote moves leading to the development of Moar as a recognised and approved language of study in basic schools as well as in the public universities.
