The Outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Hon. Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, says an amount of GH¢150 million is released to 4,000 health facilities across the country as claim payment for the past three years.
The payment, he said should reflect in the quality of health services provided, and cautioned health facilities who charged clients illegal fees to desist from such acts.
The CEO said this when he commissioned three magnificent National Health Insurance Scheme offices at Pusiga, Tempane and Bawku West Districts in the Upper East Region.
Hon. Dr. Okoe Boye said some members of the public were often not aware of payments to health facilities across the country, and some health facilities took advantage to charge clients with valid Health Insurance cards illegal fees.
As a result, he said the NHIA introduced a policy dubbed “Sunshine Policy” on www.nhis.gov.gh where payment made to all facilities across the country could be easily checked with a click on the district and the specific facility in question.
He said the Authority was in the process of introducing the Pulpit Experience (PE) where a stand with NHIS logo would be displayed at vantage places in all facilities to enable clients receive quick responses to complains and not wait for responses from Accra.
The CEO, who is the Minister Designate for Health, said given the nod by Parliament, there would be serious supervision for health delivery across hospitals to check some unprofessional behaviours in public health facilities.
He called for the need for peace in Bawku, noting that many health workers often refused postings to the area due to the persistent communal conflict which negatively affected health delivery.
In an address delivered on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu, by the Chief Director of the Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Abubakari Inusah, emphasized the importance of healthcare delivery in the region and nationwide.
He commended the leadership of the outgoing CEO which solved the issue of delayed payment of claims over the years.
He urged the beneficiary districts and authorities to put in measures to ensure the newly commissioned facilities were properly protected and maintained.
