OSP Launches Probe into Alleged GH¢70,000 Vetting Cash Scandal – Patricia Appiagyei Invited for Questioning

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched a preliminary investigation into allegations surrounding a purported GH¢70,000 payment linked to Parliament’s Appointments Committee, following the circulation of a controversial memorandum attributed to Asokwa MP and Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei

According to a statement issued by the OSP on Friday September 4, 2026 the document, which has been widely circulated in the media, claims that Madam Appiagyei returned GH¢70,000 allegedly advanced to her by the Majority Chief Whip in connection with the vetting of two ministerial nominees and three Supreme Court nominees

The anti-corruption agency said the contents of the purported memorandum raise serious concerns about the source and intended purpose of the money. The document reportedly suggests that the funds could have been linked to an alleged extortion scheme targeting the nominees appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee

In response, the OSP has commenced a preliminary investigation to establish the authenticity of the document, determine the source of the alleged funds, and ascertain the purpose for which the money was allegedly disbursed

As part of the investigation, the Special Prosecutor has formally invited Patricia Appiagyei to appear before the Office to assist investigators

The OSP stressed that, given the constitutional significance of Parliament’s Appointments Committee and the need to protect the integrity of the ministerial and judicial vetting process, the allegations warrant urgent scrutiny

The Office further disclosed that it is actively investigating all extortion allegations involving Members of Parliament, signaling a broader effort to uncover any misconduct related to parliamentary approval processes.
The latest development comes amid heightened public interest in the transparency and credibility of Ghana’s parliamentary vetting procedures
