NE/R – Bawumia Commissions Ghana’s Second Fire Academy and Training School in Wungu

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia described as historic the establishment of Ghana’s Second fire academy and training school built in Wungu near Walewale in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region

Vice President Bawumia said, ‘the school would serve as a critical network for fire service operations in Ghana more especially in the northern sector of the country adding the establishment of this academy brought to two the number of fire academies in Ghana’.

The Vice President who doubles as the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 presidential elections made these known in an address to commission the newly built facility at the Municipal capital of Walewale on Friday January 19, 2024.

He further said that when the government of NPP took over power in 2017 it met only one fire service academy in Ghana located at Jamestown with a staff strength of 7,000 and within a period of seven years government was able to raise this number to 15,000 officers.

He noted that government associating with the growing need for more fire service personnel pledged an additional three to augment the existing one thus the establishment of the Wungu fire academy.

The Vice President sadly announced that 3 percent of Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product is lost through annual bush fires emphasising on government’s resolve towards addressing this challenge through the provision of more training facilities, and the recruitment of more fire service personnel.

He announced that plans are afoot to procure modern training equipment by June this year for enhanced operations of the service commending officials of the service for their hardwork despite the numerous challenges.
