Bawku Motorbike Ban Eased : Riding Permitted from 6am to 6pm as Curfew Remains

The Minister for the Interior has reviewed restrictions on motorbike riding in the Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region, easing the ban to allow daytime use

According to a statement issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, the decision was taken on the advice of the National Security Council and through an Executive Instrument. The revised directive takes effect from Tuesday, August 25, 2026

Under the new arrangement, both men and women are permitted to ride motorbikes daily between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m

Despite the relaxation, the government has maintained the existing 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. curfew in Bawku Municipality and its environs as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard peace and security

Authorities also reiterated that the total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons remains in force

The statement warned that anyone found carrying such weapons will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law

The government urged residents to comply fully with the revised security measures and continue supporting efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability in the area
