North East Region Under Transformation as Major Road, Bridge and Education Projects Take Shape

The North East Region is experiencing a major wave of infrastructure development as the government accelerates work on several flagship projects aimed at improving transportation, education, healthcare, commerce and security across the region

Among the key projects currently under construction is the 44-kilometre Gbintiri–Napkanduri Road, being executed under the government’s flagship Big Push Programme. Work is also progressing on the Nalerigu–Napkanduri–Bunkpurugu Road and the Chereponi–Saboba Road, all expected to significantly improve road connectivity and boost economic activities

Construction is equally ongoing on the Mishio–Wuyima Bridge, while the Tinguri–Gbani Bridge in the West Mamprusi Municipality is being reconstructed after it was damaged in 2023. The bridge forms part of a major highway linking several communities to the regional capital, Nalerigu

In a major boost to local trade, construction of the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Markets is underway across all six Municipal and District Assemblies in the region

The education sector is also benefiting from substantial investment, with approximately 80 GETFund projects initiated in 2025 currently at various stages of completion.

A notable project is the resumed construction of the Gambaga College of Education’s new campus, a project originally initiated by President John Dramani Mahama in 2015 before being abandoned, Work has now resumed and is progressing steadily

Security infrastructure is also receiving attention with the construction of the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) Regional Office Complex in Nalerigu

Healthcare delivery has been strengthened through the completion and furnishing of 12 Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, with two facilities provided in each of the region’s six Municipal and District Assemblies

Additionally, several feeder roads, including the Wulugu–Guabuliga–Langbinsi–Wundua corridor and the Mimima–Kparigu Road, are under construction to improve access to farming communities and facilitate economic activities

The ongoing projects represent only a portion of the government’s broader development agenda aimed at transforming the North East Region through improved infrastructure, enhanced public services and expanded economic opportunities
