In a remarkable show of compassion and commitment to education, the Eastwood Anaba Ministry (EAM), led by its Founder and President, Rev. Eastwood Anaba has officially commissioned the newly renovated Abiliba Junior High School in the Upper East Region.

The school, which had been in a deplorable state for many years, has undergone a complete transformation, thanks to the intervention of Rev. Eastwood Anaba and the generous support of EAM partners. The commissioning ceremony, held on June 20, 2025, was graced by traditional leaders, members of the security services, representatives from the Ghana Education Service (GES), pastors and staff of Desert Pastures, community members, and students and staff of the school.

In a speech delivered on behalf of Rev. Eastwood Anaba, Mr. Christopher narrated how the journey toward the school’s renovation began. He explained that Rev. Anaba responded swiftly after his wife, Mrs. Rosemond Anaba led a delegation to donate essential educational materials, including stationery, whiteboards, office furniture, and sports equipment  to the school. During that visit, the headmistress, Madam Matilda Kunsike, made a heartfelt appeal to Mrs. Anaba to assist with the renovation of the school’s deteriorated infrastructure.

Mr. Christopher noted that the renovation extended beyond structural work. It included the provision of 120 metallic student desks, the installation of metal doors for improved safety, electrical lighting, and ceiling fans to enhance classroom comfort. A total of GH¢220,810.00 was invested in the comprehensive renovation project.

Speaking at the event, Pastor James Azanlerigu revealed that the school had not seen any renovation since 1974. He highlighted the significance of this intervention, especially since Rev. Eastwood Anaba himself was a student at the school from 1970 to 1974.

Mr. Patrick Akolgo, speaking on behalf of the Municipal Education Director, commended the ministry for its consistent support to education in the municipality.“This is not the first school Rev. Anaba has renovated,” he said. “The Ghana Education Service expresses its heartfelt gratitude to him, his wife, their partners, and the entire EAM team. The joy and excitement from the students means so much and will go a long way to enhance teaching and learning in the school.

In her remarks, the headmistress, Madam Matilda Kunsike, shared the school’s journey of transformation. When she assumed office in October 2023, the school had only 19 students. Today, the student population stands at 107, with 33 candidates recently completing their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). She proudly announced that the school now boasts over 50% academic performance, a sharp improvement from a previous 0%.

She concluded by expressing her profound appreciation to Rev. Eastwood Anaba, Mrs. Rosemond Anaba, and the EAM leadership. “This intervention has not only transformed our school’s infrastructure but has also restored hope and confidence in our students and the entire community,” she said.

The commissioning ceremony ended on a high note, filled with gratitude, hope, and a renewed commitment to nurturing academic excellence in Abiliba and beyond.
