UE/R: SOCO PROJECT FACILITATORS URGED TO WORK HARD FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT – DCE NABDAM

The Upper East Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Yussif Imam Umar, has called on Muslims and parents to unite in the fight against drug abuse among the youth while praying for lasting peace in Bawku during the 2026 Maulid Nabi celebration
The event, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), was held on the night of Tuesday, August 25, 2026 in Bolgatanga, corresponding to 12th Rabi’ul Awwal 1448AH, and attracted thousands of Muslims from across the Upper East Region
Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Imam Umar described the commemoration of the Prophet’s birth as a blessed occasion that offers Muslims an opportunity to seek Allah’s mercy and blessings through prayers and supplications
The Chief Imam expressed deep concern over the growing menace of drug abuse among young people, particularly children from the age of 12, describing it as a dangerous threat to the future of society
He cautioned the youth against the use of narcotic substances, including cannabis and other intoxicants, stressing that Islam clearly prohibits anything harmful to human life
“Drug abuse destroys lives and takes away a person’s sense of judgment. It makes one lose direction in life. We pray that Allah protects our children and guides those who have already fallen into this habit,” he said
Sheikh Umar also urged parents to closely monitor the friends and movements of their children, warning that negative peer influence is one of the major causes of drug abuse among the youth
Turning his attention to the security situation in Bawku, the Regional Chief Imam reaffirmed his continuous prayers for peace in the conflict-prone municipality
He disclosed that Muslims across the region consistently remember Bawku in their Friday congregational prayers and Zikr sessions, praying for lasting harmony among residents
“A true believer always desires peace. Those who do not want peace are not acting according to the teachings of Islam. We thank Allah that the situation has become calmer, and we pray that peace will prevail permanently in Bawku,” he stated
As part of the celebrations, a Maulid Float and Health Walk was organized on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with Ar-Rahma Co-operative Credit Union serving as the official sponsor of the 2026 Maulid celebration
The event also received generous donations from City Ladies and several other individuals
The celebration brought together imams and representatives from Muslim communities in Bolgatanga and delegates from all 15 districts of the Upper East Region
The 2026 Maulid celebration ended with special prayers for national unity, peaceful coexistence, the protection of Ghana’s youth from drug abuse, and continued peace and development across the Upper East Region
