President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a five-member committee to oversee the implementation of the GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund, a major government initiative aimed at accelerating infrastructure development and improving livelihoods in Bawku and surrounding districts

The committee is chaired by the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, and comprises the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, the Chief of Tempane, His Royal Majesty Cletus Abugri, the Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga and the Member of Parliament for Garu, Dr Thomas Winsum Anabah

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at the Presidency on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, President Mahama announced that funding for the initiative had been secured, clearing the way for the rollout of development projects following significant improvements in the security situation in Bawku

The President explained that the revitalisation fund was established after the government received the report of the Otumfuo Mediation Committee in December 2025, which renewed efforts to restore lasting peace and development to the conflict-affected area

He noted that the prolonged conflict had disrupted essential public services and stalled several key development projects, including the Tamli Dam project, slowing economic and social progress in the region

With relative peace returning to Bawku, President Mahama said the government was committed to reviving abandoned projects, restoring public confidence and ensuring the municipality and its surrounding districts receive their fair share of national development

He expressed confidence that the committee would ensure the effective and transparent implementation of the fund to transform the socio-economic fortunes of the area and consolidate the gains made in the ongoing peace process.
