NDC North East Power Battle Begins as Former Minister Abubakari Abdallah Declares Bid for Regional Secretary

By – Sadat Dabo

A new chapter in the internal politics of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the North East Region appears to be unfolding following the declaration of intent by former Northern Regional Minister and former NDC parliamentary candidate for the Walewale Constituency, Abubakari Abdallah, to contest for the position of Regional Secretary

In a declaration issued on Facebook Sunday, August 30, 2026, addressed to party faithful, Mr. Abdallah announced his decision to seek the mandate of delegates in the upcoming regional elections, describing the move as the result of “deep introspection” and a desire to continue serving the party.

“Dear beloved comrades, with profound anticipation for your invaluable support, I hereby wish to inform you of my intention to contest the position of Regional Secretary of the North East Region in the forthcoming regional election of the great NDC party,” he stated

He further indicated that he would, at the appropriate time, engage party members across the region to explain the reasons behind his decision and outline his vision for the office

The announcement is expected to generate significant discussion within the NDC, as the Regional Secretary position is regarded as one of the most influential offices in the party’s regional structure, responsible for administration, coordination, and implementation of party decisions

With Mr Abdallah’s experience as a former Northern Regional Minister and former parliamentary candidate for Walewale, political observers believe his entry into the race could intensify competition ahead of the regional polls

As campaigning gathers momentum, party supporters will be watching closely to see who else joins the contest and how the race shapes the future leadership of the NDC in the North East Region
