Media practitioners from Upper East, Upper West, Northern, North East and Savannah Regions participating in the National Security Council Secretariat’s workshop on “Responsible Journalism for National Development” have received practical training on conflict-sensitive reporting and the media’s role in promoting peace.

Researcher and lecturer Dr. James Natia Adam led a session on Responsible Reporting in Conflict Zones, drawing lessons from case studies across Northern Ghana. He urged journalists to prioritize accuracy, fairness, and conflict-sensitive reporting to avoid inflaming tensions and to contribute to peace and social cohesion.

Participants were also taken through a presentation by Major (Rtd.) Albert Don-Chebe, who highlighted the critical role of the media in peacebuilding. He emphasized that journalists have a responsibility to promote dialogue, counter misinformation, and support efforts aimed at preventing violent conflicts.

In his closing remarks, Major General Dr. Timothy Tifucro Ba-Taa-Banah, Director of Operations at the Ministry of National Security and Director of the National Counter-Terrorism Fusion Centre, expressed appreciation to the media practitioners for their active participation.

He encouraged journalists to uphold the highest ethical standards in their work and collaborate with security agencies to safeguard national peace and development.
The workshop, held at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, was organized by the National Security Council Secretariat to strengthen the capacity of journalists in responsible reporting and enhance the media’s contribution to national development.
