A joint security operation by the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces has resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition following an intelligence-led operation in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region
The operation was launched in response to a series of recent shooting incidents and other firearm-related offences that have heightened security concerns in the district
According to the Upper East Regional Police Command, one of the suspects, Isaka Sabani, also known as “Culture,” aged 32, sustained gunshot wounds during the operation and later died. Security personnel recovered an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition from him
Preliminary investigations revealed that Sabani was wanted in connection with an attempted murder case and the unlawful discharge of firearms reported at the Bawku Police Station on August 28, 2026
He was also suspected to have played a key role in separate shooting incidents at Agenda 111, Aniisi, and Gumyoko in the Binduri District on August 29, 30, and 31, 2026
The Upper East Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the military and other security stakeholders to track down all remaining suspects involved in violent crimes and restore peace, security, and law and order across the region
Police have assured the public that intelligence-led operations will continue as part of efforts to curb gun-related violence and protect lives and property.
