A new contest is taking shape within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bolgatanga East Constituency as Vitus Akoligeya Apana has formally declared his intention to contest the position of Constituency Youth Organizer in the upcoming constituency executive elections
In his declaration issued on Wednesday, September 16, Apana described his decision as a response to a “call to duty,” insisting that his ambition is driven by a desire to deploy his experience, energy and organizational skills to strengthen the party’s youth wing
From school leadership to NDC grassroots politics
Apana highlighted a leadership journey that began at the basic-school level, where he served as Assistant Boys Prefect at Zuarungu Primary School and later Senior Boys Prefect at Adukrah JHS
He subsequently served as SRC Public Relations Officer at St. John Bosco College of Education and TEIN-UEW Communications Officer. He said his performance in campus politics and communication earned him the Triple Crown Award and the Student Politician of the Year title during the 2023/2024 academic year
His political credentials, however, form the centrepiece of his declaration
Apana says he has served two terms as Branch Youth Organizer for Atugrebisi, worked as Ward Secretary for Zuarungu-North, and spent five years as a member of the Upper East Regional Communications Team
He also cites membership of the Regional Communications Working Committee and Regional Elections Supervisory Committee among his party responsibilities
At the national level, he says he served as National Communications Officer for the Bring Mahama Back Movement (BMB)
Three-pillar agenda
Should delegates give him the mandate, Apana says his leadership will focus on three key areas: remobilization, empowerment and strategic communication
He wants to revive volunteerism among the youth, move beyond what he describes as “mere rhetoric” to meaningful youth empowerment, and create stronger platforms for young people within the constituency to communicate their concerns and ideas
“I have been tried and tested, and by God’s grace and the will of the people, I have never been found wanting,” Apana stated in his declaration
He further argued that his experience across the party’s structures gives him an understanding of the challenges confronting branches, wards and the constituency as a whole
A potentially competitive youth race
Apana’s declaration now puts his name firmly into the conversation ahead of the NDC’s upcoming constituency executive elections in Bolgatanga East
His emphasis on grassroots mobilization, communications and youth empowerment is likely to make his campaign closely watched as delegates consider who should lead the constituency’s youth wing
The aspiring Youth Organizer is appealing to party members for their prayers, counsel and endorsement as he begins his campaign
