The Upper East Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Abdul Fatau Atenga Abongo, has called on transport operators and the general public to strengthen collaboration with security agencies through timely sharing of information to help prevent crime and protect lives and property
He said effective cooperation between citizens and security personnel was essential to addressing security threats in communities and ensuring a safer environment for all Ghanaians
Speaking during a stakeholder engagement on collaboration with security agencies, Mr Abongo stressed that transport operators had an important role to play in supporting national security because of their daily interactions with people and communities across the country
He observed that incidents requiring security intervention often occurred in homes, communities and public spaces but were not reported promptly, making it difficult for security agencies to respond effectively
According to him, the willingness of citizens to report suspicious activities and share relevant information could significantly strengthen the ability of security personnel to prevent crime and safeguard property

“Information sharing is very important for all of us so that they can be able to protect our lives and properties,” he said
Mr Abongo assured that the GPRTU would encourage its members to cooperate with security agencies by sharing information and contributing to efforts aimed at improving public safety
He also appealed to the wider public to recognise security as a shared responsibility rather than leaving the task entirely to security personnel
The regional chairman acknowledged the risks security officers face in protecting citizens and their property, urging the public to support their work through cooperation and responsible information sharing
He expressed appreciation to Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah for organising the programme and promoting the message of collaboration between citizens and security agencies
Mr Abongo said the GPRTU was committed to helping spread the message nationwide to encourage greater public participation in efforts to maintain peace and security
The call comes as transport operators remain key stakeholders in public safety, given their movement across communities and their daily contact with passengers and other road users
He urged GPRTU members and the public to remain vigilant, report credible security concerns through appropriate channels and cooperate with lawful investigations to help build a safer Ghana
