UE/R: SOCO PROJECT FACILITATORS URGED TO WORK HARD FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT – DCE NABDAM
By – Gladys Apuweni
Broadcast journalist with GBC URA Radio in Bolgatanga, Gladys Apuweni, has called on more women to develop an interest in journalism and actively contribute to shaping conversations on issues affecting women, children and society

She urged female journalists to use their platforms to advocate against domestic violence, child abuse, gender discrimination and other forms of inequality that continue to affect vulnerable members of society
Ms. Apuweni made the call following her recognition as the Female Journalist of the Year in the Upper East Region at the just-ended Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards
She described the recognition as both an honour and a wake up call to do more in the journalism profession, stressing that the award comes with a greater responsibility to serve the public and use journalism to create meaningful change
According to her, female journalists have an important role to play in giving a voice to women and children whose experiences and concerns are sometimes overlooked. She therefore encouraged women already in the profession to remain committed, courageous and passionate about responsible journalism
Ms. Apuweni expressed gratitude to the GJA, colleagues, mentors, family and supporters who have contributed to her journey, saying the award has motivated her to work harder and make an even greater impact through journalism
She further encouraged aspiring female journalists not to be discouraged by challenges in the media space but to pursue their ambitions with determination, professionalism and integrity
