The race for the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) Upper East Regional Secretary is beginning to gather momentum, with aspiring candidate Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdor acknowledging the work of the incumbent, Akamugri Donatus Atanga
Speaking on GBC URA Radio’s URA Sunrise programme on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Mr. Ayamdor said the current Regional Secretary had “set the bar high” through his work for the party
According to him, the standard established by Mr. Akamugri means whoever succeeds him must be prepared to work even harder to meet the expectations of the party and its grassroots
“Akamugri Donatus Atanga, the current Regional Secretary, has set the bar high as NDC Upper East Regional Secretary, and the standard he leaves behind will challenge the next Regional Secretary to do even more,” he said
Mr. Ayamdor said the focus of the next administration should not merely be on maintaining existing achievements but on building on them through vision, commitment, unity and stronger grassroots engagement
He further expressed his readiness to take up the responsibility, saying he intends to contribute to raising the standard of leadership within the party
“The bar is high. The responsibility is greater. The future demands leadership,” Mr. Ayamdor stated
His comments come ahead of the NDC’s upcoming regional executive elections
The party is expected to open nominations for the regional elections in October 2026, with the elections scheduled for November 2026
The contest for the Regional Secretary position is therefore expected to attract attention from party delegates and stakeholders as the NDC prepares for the next phase of its regional leadership
