The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has commended the Catholic Church for its significant contribution to healthcare delivery in Ghana, particularly in providing essential health services to underserved communities
He said the Church’s commitment to compassionate care, service to vulnerable populations and respect for human dignity remained invaluable to national development
Hon. Atanga made the remarks at the 21st National Conference of the Catholic Health Service Trust-Ghana, held at Extee Crystal Hotel in Bolgatanga
The conference was organised under the theme: “Dietetics in Contemporary Medical Practice: Enhancing Clinical Excellence Through Workforce Development.”
According to the Regional Minister, the government recognises the important role faith-based health institutions play in complementing public healthcare services and extending access to essential medical care
He said the government remained committed to strengthening collaboration between public institutions and faith-based healthcare providers to ensure that quality healthcare reached every Ghanaian, regardless of geographical location or personal circumstances
Hon. Atanga also underscored the importance of nutrition in modern healthcare, noting that quality medical care extended beyond diagnosing diseases and prescribing medications
He explained that appropriate nutritional care was essential for disease prevention, patient recovery and improved treatment outcomes
The Regional Minister further stressed the need to strengthen dietetics as an integral part of healthcare delivery, particularly as non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension continued to pose challenges to health systems
He said dietetics played a critical role in the prevention and management of such conditions, as well as in ensuring effective treatment and long-term patient care
Hon. Atanga’s remarks highlighted the need for continuous professional development among healthcare workers to enhance clinical excellence and improve the quality of services delivered to patients
The conference brought together stakeholders in the Catholic health sector to deliberate on contemporary practices in dietetics and the importance of workforce development in strengthening healthcare delivery
The focus on nutrition and professional capacity development is expected to contribute to discussions on improving patient care and responding to emerging healthcare needs in Ghana
