The Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region, Maulvi Mohammed Ibn Quaye described fasting during the blessed month of Ramadan as a period of service for one’s soul either physically, mentally and psychologically adding that it is a period of purification of the soul that affords the slave of Allah the opportunity to close up to Him.
Interacting with gbcuraonline.com at his resident in Bolgatanga Maulvi Quaye admonished all muslims to use this period of Ramadan where prayers were acceptable to pray fervently for the peace of their various communities, the Upper East Region and Ghana as a whole for development strives only in an atmosphere of peace.
He quoted Prophet Mohammed in a Hadith to have admonished his disciples saying ” Fasting is not the mere staying away from food and water but that spirirual exercise aimed at sympathising with the less privilege in our societies” . He therefore charged all muslims to use the period of Ramadan to ask for forgiveness from Allah for their sins and repent towards Him. This they could do by carrying out more charity works, showing love and compassion to the needy in our communities.
Touching on the spiritual significance of Ramadan he said it is a spiritual food that nourishes the soul, mind and the heart. According to him most of the devine scriptures were revealed during the month of Ramadan. Among them were; the Holy Quran, the Holy4 Bible, the scriptures of both Prophets David and Moses were all revealed during this blessed month. He said the period prepares us to be spiritually fit for the remaining eleven months of the year so as to remain righteous at all times.
Touching on the medicinal significance of fasting Maulvi Quaye said that various studies conducted in this direction revealed that it improves physical health, results into weight loss, burns cholesterol among others.
He mentioned lying, bearing fault witness, deliberately eating or drinking of food and water respectively, backbiting, slander, too much bleeding among others as act that could possibly invalidate one’s fast and called on all muslims doing the fast to avoid these acts so as to have their fast accepted and rewarded by Allah.
He stated that Ghanaians shall go to the polls at the end of this year to elect a leader for the country and it behoves on all muslims to pray for peace before, during and after the general elections more especially in the north where the main Presidential Candidates of both the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP , Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as well as the National Democratic Congress, NDC’s Mr. John Dramani Mahama come from.
What necessitated Maulvi”s call was the fact that election years were always marked with serious trials and tribulations of Allah that need His intervention through prayers during opportune times like Ramadan.
