By – Masahudu Jinkor

The Flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC and former President of the Republic of Ghana Mr. John Dramani Mahama announced plans by the next NDC government to restore back all the original names of the public universities whose names were changed in honour of heroes of the New Patriotic Party emphasising that facilities of those public universities could be used instead allowing the affected universities to retain the names for the purposes for which they were established.

He made this pronouncement at a durbar of Chiefs and people of the Zuarungu Traditional Area as part of activities marking his two-day “Building Ghana Tour” of the Upper East Region.

Touching on abandoned projects started by the past NDC administrations Mr. Mahama assured residents of the traditional area of his resolve to continue the expansion of the Tono Dam Irrigation Project, the Vea Irrigation Project and the Tamni Irrigation Project in the Garu area to make dry season farming attractive to the youth who run down south in search of non-existing jobs.

Mr. announced plans to revamp the Wulugu Livestock Company to feed the revamped Zuarungu Meat Factory under his administration to employ most of our unemployed graduates currently without jobs thereby reducing the unemployment situation in the country.

Mr. Mahama stated that the cargo area of the Tamale Airport project which was started by the NDC would witness an expansion to enable commodities from especially the north be exported to Europe for enhanced foreign exchange for the country.

He further said that the Pwalugu Multi-purpose Dam project which was gimmicked round by the ruling NPP would also see a revival to supply 30 to 40 megawatts of our electricity needs. The revival of this project according to him would hold back excess water annually spilled from Bagre and Kompienga Dams in Burkina Faso from causing yearly flooding which affect mostly farmers in this part of Northern Ghana.
