President Mahama Reaffirms Commitment to Upper East Development

President John Dramani Mahama has inspected ongoing construction works on the Chuchuliga–Sandema–Tumu road as part of his two-day “Resetting Ghana” tour of the Upper East Region, reaffirming his government commitment to delivering critical road infrastructure under the Big Push programme

Addressing engineers, contractors and residents during the inspection, President Mahama described the road as a strategic project that will strengthen connectivity between the Upper East and Upper West regions

The President recalled that funding had been secured for the project in 2016 before his administration left office, resulting in work slowing down. He expressed satisfaction that construction has resumed under the Big Push initiative, which prioritizes major road projects with dedicated annual budget allocations

President said, the new financing arrangement guarantees prompt payments to contractors, ensuring uninterrupted progress “As soon as certificates are presented, payment is guaranteed within a 30-day period, Contractors receive their money and can continue work without delays,” He stated

President Mahama also praised the contractor, Myturn Limited, describing the company as experienced and competent. He paid tribute to the late founder of the company and commended his sister, who now manages the business, for maintaining high professional standards

The President expressed optimism that by 2028 the entire road corridor from Bolgatanga to Wa would be completed, providing motorists with a smooth and safe journey

Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, disclosed that the Mahama administration has paid GH¢23.1 billion to contractors, covering both Big Push projects and outstanding arrears inherited from previous administrations

President Mahama will go on record as the President who paid the largest amount of outstanding road contract arrears in Ghana’s history,” the Minister said.

Mr. Agbodza assured residents that road projects across the Upper East Region are progressing, with every constituency and district receiving attention

The Roads Minister expressed confidence in Myturn Limited capacity to finish the project ahead of schedule, noting that with payment bottlenecks removed, work has accelerated significantly

He added that contractors on other sections of the Bolgatanga–Wa corridor are also making steady progress, with some expected to complete their projects by the end of the year or during the first quarter of next year

The Chuchuliga–Sandema–Tumu road project forms part of government flagship Big Push infrastructure programme aimed at improving regional connectivity, boosting trade and enhancing socio-economic development across northern Ghana
