By – Sadat Dabo
Two aspirants have been disqualified from contesting the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) North East Regional Executive Elections following a vetting exercise held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the North East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Nalerigu
The disqualifications have reshaped the contest for two key positions, with Nurudini Abdul-Rahaman emerging as the sole candidate for the Deputy Treasurer position following the disqualification of his contender, Amos Baba Kombet
In an exclusive interview with GBC URA Radio after the vetting, the NDC North East Regional Director of Elections and IT, Shamudeen Abu disclosed that 50 aspirants had been cleared to contest the various regional executive positions after the vetting exercise

According to him, 53 persons picked nomination forms ahead of the elections, while 52 successfully submitted their forms before the deadline on Thursday, October 15, 2026
The vetting committee comprised six members, with three representatives from the national level and three from the region
The two aspirants disqualified were Raabi Darkom, who was contesting for the Women Organizer position, and Amos Baba Kombet, a Deputy Treasurer aspirant
The disqualification of Kombet leaves Nurudini Abdul-Rahaman as the only cleared candidate for Deputy Treasurer, effectively making the position uncontested unless subsequent developments alter the situation
