The Head of Programmes at Star Ghana Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Eunice R. Agbenyadzi, has said it has become essential for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to mobilize local resources to fund their programmes and activities. She hinted that external source of funding for some programmes and activities may stop some time to come.

“Due to some challenges, external donors may not be able to continue their support for humanitarian activities of NGOs and therefore we are urging CSOs and other NGOs to be prepared to sustain and fund their own activities.” Eunice Agbeyadzi was speaking at a day’s validation workshop for some selected participants in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

The participants drawn from Northern, North East, Upper West, Savannah and Upper East Regions to explore for the contributions of the participants to help the foundation in its quest to develop a draft strategy to guide its philanthropy work for the period 2023 to 2027. Eunice Agbenyadzi indicated that;

“The workshop is expected to build consultation around the strategy with all relevant stakeholders to receive their views that will be used to prepare the final document or strategy to pave the way for its implementation.”

The Communications Officer of Youth Empowerment for Life (YEFL) based in Tamale, Hamdiatu Yakubu said the workshop was intriguing and was expecting that the concerns of participants would be included in the final document to sharp the philanthropic space and make it friendly.
“This is going to be like a big document to be used in the philanthropic space in Ghana and also being part of it means that whatever contribution that I have made will go a long way to shape the philanthropic space and also the landscape in the country.” Ms Hamdiatu Yakubu said.
