UE/R: SOCO PROJECT FACILITATORS URGED TO WORK HARD FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT – DCE NABDAM
By – Sadat Dabo
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region has cleared 50 aspirants to contest its regional executive elections slated for November 16, with two key positions going unopposed after vetting and balloting held on Friday October 16, 2026
NDC Upper East Regional Elections Director, Donatus Nyaaba, disclosed this to GBC URA RADIO after the vetting exercise at the regional party office in Zuarungu, Bolgatanga East District
According to Mr. Nyaaba six-member vetting panel made up of three members from national led by Malik Basintale and three members from the regional team conducted the exercise.
“We started the vetting process around 11 am because we had to give them some briefings, taking them through the guidelines of the party – the do’s and the don’ts and some protocols we wanted them to be aware of,” he said
Petitions dismissed
Mr. Nyaaba revealed that the process was almost derailed by petitions.
He said on Thursday October 15 one petition was received on grounds that an aspirant was suspected to be a National Security operative. More petitions came in just as vetting was about to start
Crucially, the committee dismissed the petition filed against the Deputy Organizer aspirant
“The petition against the deputy organizer was dismissed and the person was vetted making them three,” Mr. Nyaaba stated.
He explained that by party guidelines, a petitioner has a duty to inform the person being petitioned against a protocol that was not followed
“Yesterday’s case when they came we asked them but they said they were not able to reach out to the person. But we had to call the person and send the petition to him for the person to prepare to answer.”
Two other petitions that came in late argued that some aspirants had never held any executive position from branch, constituency, regional to national level and were therefore not qualified
The committee disagreed with those petitions as well, noting that the content was being used against almost every aspirant
“At the end we qualified the entire membership of the 50,” he said
Two Unopposed
One Withdrawal Out of the 51 who submitted forms, Regional Organizer aspirant Emmanuel Bukari Issaka withdrew before vetting
That leaves incumbent Regional Organizer Yasaana Ibrahim Mutawakilu going unopposed, and Regional Communications Officer Casper Sunday Webakur K. also going unopposed
“Making two unopposed – Organizer and Communication,” Mr. Nyaaba confirmed.
After vetting, balloting was conducted for all cleared aspirants
November 16 Decided
Mr. Nyaaba announced that the regional elections have been fixed for 16th November.
He added that the regional directorate will create a WhatsApp platform for all contestants to share campaign protocols as agreed by the National Functional Executive Committee.
“This is a family exercise… we want them to do their campaign in a certain manner so that the loser will not feel lost and the winner will not be swallow headed,” he said.
He advised aspirants to avoid insults and promises that cannot be fulfilled, echoing a message from the Regional Chairman who is also a contestant, that the exercise is a family matter aimed at maintaining power in 2028
“What is good about NDC is that upon all that, our regional chairman who is also a contestant came and told them that this is a family matter, this is a family house and we all belong to one NDC.”
Mr. Nyaaba clarified that he is no longer in charge of constituency elections, having moved fully to the region from Bolgatanga Central. He said every constituency now has its own elections director who manages elections on his behalf
