The Regional Communication Director
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region says it is well prepared to conduct its upcoming constituency elections scheduled for October 25, 2026
The Regional Communication Director of the NDC, Mr. Salifu Abdullah, said the vetting of aspirants had been completed, with campaigns currently ongoing across the various constituencies. He said the party’s election directorates had also been working to ensure that the challenges experienced during previous elections were avoided
Speaking in a one on one interview on October 7, 2026, Mr. Abdullah said the party had, so far, not recorded petitions or court injunctions in connection with the upcoming elections and expressed hope that the process would remain peaceful and orderly
He explained that the elections would involve youth and women’s positions, whose successful candidates would subsequently become delegates eligible to participate in the election of the main constituency executives
He noted that although the party sometimes holds the various elections on the same day due to time and resource constraints, the youth and women’s elections are conducted first before the main elections
According to him, 23 positions are open for contest in each constituency, with about 150 positions being contested across the region. He said the number of aspirants varies from constituency to constituency, with the highest number of contenders for the chairmanship position currently being seven in the Talensi Constituency
Mr. Abdullah described the level of competition as part of the democratic process, noting that the NDC’s position as the governing party had made the various executive positions attractive to party members seeking to contribute to the party’s administration
He, however, urged all aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and focus on issues rather than personal attacks and insults. He said the positions being contested were important party responsibilities and called on aspirants to respect one another throughout the process
Mr. Abdullah further advised party members to recognise that the NDC was now in government and, therefore, the approach to party activities must reflect its new position
He said party executives and members seeking leadership positions should focus on defending the party’s policies, explaining government programmes to the public and contributing positively to the party’s work, rather than relying on confrontational approaches to gain recognition
He expressed confidence that the preparations undertaken by the regional and constituency election directorates would help ensure that the October 25 elections will be conducted successfully.
