UER: Bolgatanga MCE Optimistic of Affordable Christmas and New Year Celebrations

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Mr. Roland Ayoo Atanga, has expressed optimism that residents of the municipality will enjoy the Christmas and New Year festivities, citing a reduction in the prices of food items as a major boost to household spending.

Speaking on the URA Sunrise programme on GBC URA Radio in Bolgatanga, Mr. Ayoo Atanga said the current trend of declining food prices has come as a relief to many families and is expected to make the festive season more enjoyable for residents across the municipality.

According to the MCE, the reduction in food prices reflects broader efforts by government to stabilise the economy and ease the cost-of-living pressures on citizens. He noted that food affordability is particularly important during festive periods when households traditionally prepare meals for family gatherings and social celebrations.

Mr. Ayoo Atanga explained that staples such as grains, vegetables, and livestock products have become relatively affordable compared to previous months, enabling families to plan celebrations without excessive financial strain. He expressed confidence that this development would encourage increased patronage of local markets, thereby boosting economic activities within the municipality.

The MCE also commended farmers, traders, and transport operators for their role in ensuring steady food supply to the markets. He said improved agricultural output and efficient distribution systems have contributed significantly to the current price stability.

Mr. Ayoo Atanga urged residents to celebrate responsibly and prioritise locally produced food items, noting that doing so would not only reduce costs but also support local farmers and traders. He further encouraged families to avoid unnecessary spending and to plan within their means to ensure a peaceful and stress-free festive season.

Touching on security, the MCE assured residents that the Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with security agencies, has put in place measures to ensure safety before, during, and after the festivities. He stressed that a peaceful environment is essential for meaningful celebrations.
