UE/R: SOCO PROJECT FACILITATORS URGED TO WORK HARD FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT – DCE NABDAM

The Spotless Event Planners, an organization known for its passion and creating of cultural, tourism, community engagements and many socio-economic events, has organized its annual event known as ‘Tasteen Weekend, From Tree to Butter ‘. This year’s event took place at the entity’s Shea village in Gingabnia, near Navrongo in the Kassena Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region. According to the organisers, the weekend’s event formed part of celebrations marking the National Panafest and Emancipation Day which took place at the Paga-Nania Pikworo Slave Camp in the Kassena-Nankana West District.

The event started with a financial literacy lecture followed by a health session and then, organic farming engagements with Women’s groups; all led by the Chief Executive Officer of B.C. BENCYN Limited, Mr. Anyanah Achelisewine Benjamin. Mr. Anyanah who is also a community developer, advised them against freedies, unsustainable farming practices and bad financial management adding that, even though it is always challenging to start anything, with a strong commitment they can do it, citing himself as an example. He said the BENCYN Group of companies, supports all community initiatives that bring about development, especially greening of the environment , sustainable businesses and their health matters, hence the collaboration with Spotless Event Planners, to use the opportunity to share and learn.

Mr. F. Ibrahim of Spotless Event planners, who is also a tour guide by Profession stated that, “from the Tree to Butter ‘ project, is to showcase the blessings God has given Ghana and Africa, which is the Shea tree, an ancestral tree that continues to be part of our life, full of health benefits and to promote it. He disclosed that they have been creating awareness, against felling of the Shea trees for charcoal, because the benefits from the life Shea trees, are more than the just charcoal, and that, they can even get fuel from the bye-product. He added that, his outfit has also established a full factory that processes the Shea nuts to Butter, for local consumption and export. He emphasized that, “we are Africans not by mistake and we are from the Northern Ghana not by mistake, God in His wisdom knows who we are, that is why He, positioned us here, so we should learn to accept, appreciate and keep what we have, and showcase it and transfer the indigenous knowledge to our children, because no one will sell our story for us”.

There were lots of activities performed to celebrate the day starting with a tree planting exercise, the local processing chain of Shea butter from the tree to the butter, by both Men and Women including the expatriates, and a traditional food bazaar, which included but not limited to local flour and water, bambara beans, bean leaves cake , fried potatoes, dawadawa jollof, meat all prepared with only Shea butter and an exhibition of products like Shea butter, local rice, organic fertilizers and Stew made and nicely packaged and lebled by them amidst music and dance. Some of the Executive members of the Spotless Event Planners present were Mr. Sabinus Chiravira, Mr. K. Franky and Madam Patience Azuah among others.
