NDC Upper East Secretary Race Heats Up : Former Bongo DCE, Alexis Ayamdor Throws His Hat Into the Ring

The race for the position of Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region is set to attract fresh competition following the declaration of intent by Hon. Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdor to contest the position

In a statement addressed to the NDC family and media houses, Mr. Ayamdor said his decision followed “careful reflection and extensive consultations,” as he offered himself to serve as the party’s next Regional Secretary

The aspiring candidate is positioning his bid around unity, organisation, discipline, accountability, communication, innovation and grassroots mobilisation, themes he says are necessary to strengthen the party ahead of future political contests

Mr. Ayamdor brings more than two decades of experience spanning governance, education, international development, project management, administration and community mobilisation

His professional background includes service as District Chief Executive of the Bongo District Assembly, Programme Management Specialist and Northern Sector Office Coordinator for USAID, Programme Officer with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Programme Facilitator under the IBIS Public Participation in Local Governance project, and Community Empowerment Programme Officer with TRAX-Ghana

He has also served as an ECOWAS Parliament and Commission Intern and worked as a pupil-teacher in Bongo. He is currently an Industrial Liaison Officer at Bolgatanga Technical University

Beyond his professional experience, Mr. Ayamdor is highlighting a long history of grassroots political involvement within the NDC

His political experience, according to his declaration, includes serving as a Unit Committee Member, elected Assembly Member, Presiding Member, Branch Secretary, Constituency Campaign Team Member and member of the Bongo Constituency Fundraising Committee for the 2024 elections

He is also the Regional Team-Lead of the Former MMDCEs Forum and currently serves as Secretary to the Constituency Council of Elders in Bongo

What Ayamdor Says He Will Bring

If given the opportunity to serve as Regional Secretary, Mr. Ayamdor says he intends to strengthen party structures, improve internal communication and coordination, deepen grassroots mobilisation and promote greater accountability

He also identifies increased participation of women and young people, election preparedness and effective party administration among his priorities

Mr. Ayamdor describes himself as a team player, listener, organiser and servant-leader, promising to work with regional and constituency executives, branch executives, elected representatives, former leaders, cadres, women, youth and the wider party membership

His declaration adds another dimension to what could become a closely watched internal contest for the NDC Regional Secretary position in the Upper East Region

For the NDC in the region, the emerging contest is likely to place renewed attention on questions of party organisation, grassroots mobilisation, internal coordination, discipline and preparedness for future elections

Mr. Ayamdor is calling on party members to support his bid as he seeks to make his experience and organisational agenda part of the conversation over the future direction of the NDC in the Upper East Region
