Former Bongo DCE Alexis Ayamdor Picks No.2 After Vetting For NDC Upper East Secretary – “Secretary Is Not A Minute-Taker, He Is The Anchor”

By – Sadat Dabo

Aspirant for the Upper East Regional Secretary position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdor, says he is the best bet to anchor the party in the region, following his successful vetting and balloting

Speaking to GBC URA Radio in Bolgatanga after the exercise, Mr. Ayamdor disclosed that he has been cleared and has picked number two on the ballot paper for the regional contest

The former District Chief Executive for Bongo who is now contesting to become the party’s chief scribe in the region, said his over two decades of experience from the grassroots to the top makes him the ideal candidate

“Having been a grassrooter, having been an assemblyman, a presiding member, raising to become the district chief executive, I believe that I am the best person to fit in,” he said

He argued that the role of Regional Secretary goes far beyond administrative duties

“Because if you look at the role of the secretary, the regional secretary, the role of the regional secretary is not just about sitting and writing minutes. It is the anchor of the party at the regional front. And so as a regional secretary, you more or less become the policy advisor to the executive committee. You are the custodian of the knowledge and then the resources of the region,” he explained

According to Mr. Ayamdor, who has declared his intention to contest the position promising to strengthen grassroots structures, the secretary must also be a mobilizer, a peacemaker, a networker, and the party’s representative at the national level

“With all these values of experiences that I’ve garnered over 20 years and having joined this party since in 1992, I felt that I am the best person, best bet for delegates out there,” he added

Sustaining 15/15 and Growing Raw Votes

Mr. Ayamdor said his immediate priority is to sustain the gains the NDC made in the Upper East Region, where the party won all 15 parliamentary seats – 15 over 15

He however cautioned that despite the clean sweep, the party’s absolute vote numbers are being eaten into by opponents and called for deliberate conflict management mechanisms at the constituency level

“It is a clear fact that we still have our opponent eating into our raw data in terms of the raw population that we get. It is my belief that we would at the regional level put in place mechanisms to ensure that we get these differences addressed at the constituency level, so that we can minimize… and gain the numerical strength in terms of the absolute vote,” he said

He outlined a vision anchored on grassroots engagement and welfare, drawing from his background in the NGO field and governance

“It is not to sit in the office and administer the party, but to get down to the roots of the party regularly, to engage with constituency executives, engage with the branch leadership, engage with stakeholders… the welfare of our party, the grassroots participation in all the activities that the party earmarks are the topmost priority of my administration.”

Appeal to Delegates

The aspirant, who officially declared his intention in a statement on September 21, 2026 after extensive consultations, used the opportunity to wish constituency executive aspirants well ahead of the constituency elections scheduled for the 24th of this month

He appealed to delegates to look out for competence, service and loyalty, which he says are his cardinal principles

“I am number two on the ballot paper, and my competence, my service, and my loyalty to the party are the key cardinal things that I bring on board. I will work with our elected representatives in Parliament and political appointees at the regional level to ensure that the region is catered for and is actually getting what it deserves per the results that we have delivered.”

Mr. Ayamdor also called for unity between the old and new guards in the party, pledging to bridge the gap between former MPs, former government appointees and the current generation of party leaders

He thanked the party machinery for a smooth vetting process and promised to hit the ground running with constituency tours immediately after the constituency elections
