The Bolgatanga Central Technical Institute (BCTI) holds  its much anticipated, Graduation and Exhibition Ceremony, celebrating the achievements of 95 students who successfully completed various technical and vocational training programs.

The event, marked by vibrant displays of student innovation in catering and fashion, drew dignitaries, educators, family members, and local stakeholders to the school’s premises. Delivering her address, the Principal of BCTI, Madam Diana Akwalay Ayettey, expressed pride in the institution’s consistent delivery of high-quality technical education and practical skills training.

“Our graduates today, 71 from the catering department and 24 from fashion, are a testament to our commitment to equipping young people with the skills needed for today’s job market,” she stated. “We’re confident that they will go on to make meaningful contributions in sectors such as fashion, catering, electricals, building technology, welding, and cosmetology.”

Madam Ayettey, however, acknowledged the challenges facing the institution, including outdated tools, limited infrastructure, and insufficient modern equipment that hinder optimal learning outcomes. “We remain hopeful that these challenges will be addressed soon to help maximize the potential of our students,” she added.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Hon. Roland, who chaired the occasion, commended BCTI’s leadership, staff, and students for their role in promoting technical education in the municipality. He emphasized the growing relevance of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Ghana’s development agenda.

“As the country works towards job creation, reducing unemployment, and building a self-reliant economy, TVET has become a key pillar,” Hon. Roland said. “To our graduates, let your creativity and hard work guide you. Turn your talents into sustainable businesses and careers.”

He also used the opportunity to appeal to development partners, the private sector, and stakeholders in education to support institutions like BCTI. “Let us work together to provide our young people with the platforms and resources they need to thrive,” he urged.

Also present at the ceremony was Madam Phoebe Danka, Head of Department for Catering Development, who called on the government to provide urgent support in the form of modern infrastructure, learning materials, and equipment for effective teaching and learning.

In an interview with Abdul Rahim Ahmed, the Founder and CEO of Ara clothing, commended the students for their efforts, he expressed excitement over the high sense of fashion and creativity the students exhibited and assured the school of his desire to work with some of them. Mr Ahmed calls on government,  benevolent individuals, and institutions to come on board to assist the school with enough facilities and learning tools.

The event concluded with an exhibition of student projects showcasing exceptional talent and innovation in both fashion and culinary arts. Guests left inspired by the potential of BCTI graduates and the role of technical education in shaping Ghana’s future workforce.
