UER: Bolgatanga MCE Urges Residents to Remain Security Conscious Ahead of Christmas Festivities

By: Prosper Adankai

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Mr. Roland Ayoo Atanga, has called on residents of the municipality to remain vigilant and security conscious as the Christmas festivities approach. He stressed that heightened public awareness and cooperation are crucial to ensuring peace and safety before, during, and after the celebrations.

According to Mr. Ayoo Atanga, festive periods often come with increased social activities, late-night movements, and large gatherings, which can expose residents to security risks if adequate precautions are not taken. He therefore urged the public to be alert at all times and to adopt responsible behaviours that would help deter criminal activities within the municipality.

Speaking on the URA Sunrise programme on GBC URA Radio in Bolgatanga, the MCE advised revelers, particularly those who move about at night, to do so in groups rather than individually. He explained that moving in troops or groups significantly reduces the risk of being attacked by bandits or other criminal elements who often take advantage of isolated individuals during festive seasons.

Mr. Ayoo Atanga also encouraged residents to avoid poorly lit areas, be cautious with the use of mobile phones in public spaces, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the security agencies. He emphasized that community vigilance remains a key component of effective security management and that residents have a shared responsibility to support law enforcement efforts.

The MCE further revealed that the Bolgatanga Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has put in place measures aimed at strengthening the presence of security personnel across the municipality. As part of these measures, plans are underway to accommodate police officers and soldiers in government bungalows to enable them to live within the communities they serve.

According to him, improving residential accommodation for security operatives would enhance rapid response to security threats and increase visibility, which serves as a strong deterrent to criminal activities. He noted that the initiative would also improve coordination among security agencies and foster stronger relationships between security personnel and residents.

Mr. Ayoo Atanga assured the public that the Municipal Assembly is working closely with the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and other security agencies to ensure a peaceful festive season. He indicated that patrols would be intensified, especially at night and in identified hotspots, to safeguard lives and property.

He also appealed to parents and guardians to monitor the movements of their children during the festivities and discourage activities that could expose them to danger. According to him, responsible parenting and community cooperation are essential in maintaining peace during periods of heightened social interaction.

The Bolgatanga MCE reiterated that the safety and security of residents remain a top priority for the Municipal Assembly and the government. He called on the public to support the efforts of security agencies by providing timely information and adhering to security guidelines.

As Christmas draws near, Mr. Ayoo Atanga urged residents to celebrate responsibly and in a manner that promotes unity, peace, and mutual respect. He expressed confidence that with collective vigilance and effective collaboration between the public and security agencies, Bolgatanga Municipality would experience a safe and joyful festive season.
