The Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School has renewed calls for urgent support to address its growing infrastructure challenges, during its
second BOGSOGA-sponsored Speech and Prize-Giving Day held at the Francisca Yizura Hall. The ceremony, themed “Girls Today: Leaders
Tomorrow—Aiming for Excellence,” drew students, staff, old students, and dignitaries, and highlighted the need for enhanced learning
facilities to match the school’s rising enrolment.
School authorities revealed that overcrowded classrooms, inadequate furniture in the dining hall and library, and the lack of essential teaching facilities, including an interactive board and fully equipped science laboratories, are hampering academic performance. These
challenges, they said, have particularly affected the school’s participation in the National Science and Maths Quiz, where the
absence of standard laboratory equipment limits effective preparation.

The Assistant Girls’ Prefect expressed concern over the impact of inadequate facilities on learning and overall student welfare, noting that overcrowding and limited resources are slowing academic progress. BOGSOGA’s Global President highlighted the association’s contributions
over previous years, including scholarship schemes, sponsorship packages, and targeted infrastructure support, and urged the wider
community to join efforts to restore the school as a centre of excellence for girls.

The association also launched a fundraising campaign for a 30-seater water-closet toilet facility to improve sanitation and ease pressure on existing washrooms.
In response, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, pledged 10,000 Ghana cedis toward the toilet project, while the Upper East Regional
Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, contributed 2,000 Ghana cedis and assured the school of further GETFund support. A former Mathematics and Social Studies teacher, Mr. Akamugri revealed that he has engaged heads of second-cycle institutions across the region to assess their challenges and hinted that the Education Minister will visit the region soon to address pressing education-related concerns.

The event also celebrated outstanding students, teaching staff, and non-teaching personnel, recognising their dedication, excellence, and
contribution to the school’s growth. The ceremony underscored the urgent need for collective action from government, development partners, and alumni to ensure that Bolgatanga Girls’ SHS continues to nurture the next generation of female leaders in Ghana.
