UE/R: GJA Elections – Committee member advocates decorous Campaigns

By Raymond Batasia Wegwi

Mr Osmam Muntawakilu, a Member of the Election Committee for the Upper East Regional chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has called for decorous campaigns among candidates in the election.

The GJA is scheduled to elect national and regional executives on June 30, 2025, to steer its affairs for the next four years.

He said the election must not cause dislike among candidates in the contest, and stressed the need for members to continue to remain united after the election. Mr Muntawakilu, the Acting Regional Director of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), made the call at a programme for candidates to select positions on the ballot paper.

Mr Albert Sore of Multimedia and Mr Ebo-Bruce Quansah of Daily Guide and General Manager of A1 Radio are vying for the Chairperson position. Mr Sore picked number one on the ballot paper while Mr Quansah, picked two.

Mr Joshua Asaah, who filed for the Vice Chairman position, Mr Anthony Adongo Apubeo, Secretary and Mr Raymond Wegwi, Treasurer, were unopposed.

“Your campaigns should be  issues based, devoid of insults, ethnicity and the likes, so that whoever emerges winner, would be able to carry all the members along to champion the principles of the GJA,” Mr Muntawakilu, also a former Vice Chairman of the GJA in the Region said.

He further cautioned delegates to be circumspect in their utterances as they campaigned for their preferred candidate, so that the GJA would ultimately emerge victorious at the end.

He noted that membership of the GJA and eligible voters in the Region were few as compared to other Associations and that any contest within the fraternity  should be friendly.

“The region has always delivered peaceful elections, and this year should not be different in order that we do not tarnish that enviable image,” the Election Committee member said.
