UE/R: ST. PAUL’S PRIMARY LAUNCHES ACTIVITIES FOR CENTENARY CELEBRATION

The St. Paul’s Primary School,  established in 1926, by the Catholic Church and the local authorities in Navrongo, in the Kasena Nankana Municipality, in the Upper East Region which  produced a lot of scholars, who are serving  Ghana and the world over, in various capacity, will be 100 years by June, 2026, and therefore the, Alumni led by Prof. Joseph Amikuzuno, and the current leaders and pupils of the school, has unveiled series of activities to raise about Ghc 96,522.80, to help build a modern school for them, with the theme “Celebration 100 Years of Academic Excellence and Character Formation”.

Launching the centenary celebration, the current Headmistress of the school, Madam Parese K. Osberg, who is an old student, expressed her immense pride and heartfelt joy, as  an old student and now the current Headmistress, carrying with her, the values, discipline and the foundation knowledge received within the very walls of the school, that continues to nurture young minds, shape futures and building legacies. She paid a glowing tribute to, Emeritus late Dery, late Lawrence Abavana, late Navro-Pio Adda and others, who laid the foundation of the school 100 years ago. Despite the 100 years of history and grace, the St Paul’s Primary School is faced with numerous challenges as the Headmistress presented seven of those problems, before the gathering and pleaded for urgent support. According to her, currently the school lacks basic infrastructure like modern classrooms, funiture, teaching and learning materials, good access road to the school, security, signpost for clear direction, electricity  ,play ground especially for the kindagarten pupils to play around, and erosion is also eating up the school compound and during the raining season, it’s very terrible for teachers, parents , the pupils and ultimately teaching and learning suffers hence she appeals to the Alumni, the community leaders, parents, government and all well wishers to help invest in the future of the children by rebuilding, repairing and reimagining what the school can be tomorrow .

The Kasena Nankana Municipal Director of Education, Mr Thomas Kanlisi ,who is an old student said, the school has produced a lot of very good human resources for the country, who are doing well and wondering what has gone wrong for the school to have been forgotten by them all this while, and promised to push for it fair share from the common fund from the Assembly and the Alumni, for development .

The Kasena Nankana Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustina A. Abulu, who is also an student, and a gust of honor at the launching, discribed the occasion as a true honor and personal joy to be part of it, as special guest of honor in the school, that gave her foundation of life. She said, they are not just celebrating the passage of time, but the countless lives that have been shaped within those walls over the years and acknowledged the efforts of the past and current leaders of the school and parents, for their support. According to the MCE, she remains committed to supporting educational development in the Municipality and will continue to work hard to ensure schools like St Paul’s Primary received the resources and attention they deserve and called for peace and unity as they celebrate 100 years of history and grace. There were varied activities by past and present students including eating of Minkeera(cooked sorghum) to launch the anniversary. By Raymond Wegwi.
