UE/R: SOCO PROJECT FACILITATORS URGED TO WORK HARD FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT – DCE NABDAM

In a resounding display of unity, Honorable Roland Atanga was unanimously confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Bolgatanga on Monday 28th April, 2025. The confirmation process, held with a strong emphasis on decorum and adherence to electoral guidelines, saw all 38 members present and voting cast their ballots in favor of the nominee.
The event was attended by a diverse array of dignitaries and community leaders, underscoring the significance of the occasion. Notable attendees included representatives from the High Court, the previous MCE, Honorable Rex Asanga, former MCEs, and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo East Assembly, Honorable Akansake Adongo, and the General Manager (GM) for Bongo District Assembly, Honorable Samuel Mbah. Also present were Honorable Donatus Nyaba, in charge of elections for the Upper East Region, and the Regional Minister, Honorable Donatus Akamugri Atanga, along with the Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Honorable Bonaaba (Bull Dozer).
The ceremony commenced with the induction of 12 new assembly members, who were sworn in and given their official oaths. The Presiding Member (PM) welcomed all attendees and emphasized the importance of a smooth and exemplary confirmation process, highlighting Bolgatanga’s role as a regional beacon.
The Electoral Commission (EC) team meticulously outlined the voting procedures, ensuring clarity for both new and returning assembly members. The guidelines stressed the need for a two-thirds majority of members present and voting for confirmation and the use of a secret ballot.
Following the voting process, the EC officially declared Honorable Roland Atanga as duly confirmed MCE.
In his acceptance speech, the newly confirmed MCE expressed his gratitude to the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the NDC leadership, and the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to align with the President’s vision for economic revitalization and to work towards balanced development across Bolgatanga, with the ultimate goal of achieving metropolitan status for the municipality.
Honorable Atanga also committed to restoring Bolgatanga’s reputation as a peaceful haven and promised an open-door policy, encouraging collaboration and participation from all residents, regardless of political affiliation. He acknowledged the developmental challenges facing the municipality, including poverty, environmental degradation, poor sanitation, unemployment, and infrastructural deficits, and assured the assembly and the people of Bolgatanga of his readiness to tackle these issues head-on.
Furthermore, the MCE vowed to support the Regional Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) in advocating for significant infrastructure projects for Bolgatanga. He also expressed his respect for the media and his commitment to fostering a mutually beneficial relationship to promote Bolgatanga’s progress.
The event concluded amidst jubilation, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Bolgatanga under the leadership of Honorable Roland Atanga.
