Residents of Walewale were left in shock on Tuesday afternoon after three armed robbers attacked a mobile money agent and a customer in a daylight robbery opposite the Total Fuel Station

The incident occurred at about 4:10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, when the armed men reportedly targeted a mobile money vendor, popularly known as Sister Sakina, and a Fulani man who was conducting business with her

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants made away with the Fulani man’s motorbike and GH₵5,050 in cash

Sister Sakina also disclosed that the robbers stole an unspecified amount of money from her mobile money float before fleeing the scene

Police have confirmed the incident and say investigations are underway to track down the suspects

The three robbers are reported to have escaped through Kperiga towards an unknown destination

The attack has heightened concerns over the growing spate of armed robberies targeting mobile money agents in the area, with residents calling for increased police patrols and enhanced security measures to protect businesses and the public.

Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection and incumbent Member of Parliament for Walewale constituency in the North East Region, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu has lost the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries to Dr. Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru , a technical adviser to the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

At the end of a keenly contested successful parliamentary primaries held on Saturday January 27, 2024 at the Walewale Senior High and Technical School, Dr. Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru emerged victorious with 345 votes out of a total of 842 votes cast. Beating the incumbent Member of Parliament Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection who polled 338.

The other two contestants included Sham-An Tahiru, a businessman who polled 145 with Jangdo Mahama who polled only 1 vote. No rejected ballot but 13 spoilt ballots were recorded.

The Certified results were declared by the Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, Adams Abdul-Rauf who described the electoral process as free and fair.
